Meet the Governors at our school:

Claire Townson - Chair of Governors, Teaching & Achievement Committee Member

Claire is an experienced primary school  governor having served on a governing body for over 10 years in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Claire also serves on a local governing committee in a multi academy trust in York.

Claire is an experienced HR professional and works at the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust as the director of corporate services.

 

Claire is a Foundation Governor and her current term of office commenced on 26/01/15. It is due to end on 25/01/19.

Angela Oswald - Headteacher

 

Mrs Oswald trained and qualified with BA HON Primary Education with QTS from the University of Brighton in 2002. She went on to be employed as an Advanced Skills Teacher for Teaching and Learning with North Yorkshire County Council before becoming a Deputy Headteacher and Acting Headteacher in Redcar and Cleveland. In 2013, Mrs Oswald was awarded NPQH.

 

Mrs Oswald is a member of the Governor Committees and is responsible for providing the Governors with information on teaching, learning and progress as well as the practicalities of the strategic leadership of the school.

Isobel McCoy - pupil premium link governor

 

Isobel has been a Parent Governor for a Federation of 3 small primary schools in the Yorkshire Wolds for several years now. Isobel has worked for the Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust as a Neighbourhood Services Officer for over 20 years, much of that time being based in New Earswick.

 

Isobel is a Foundation Governor and her current term of office commenced on 25/02/16. It is due to end on 24/02/20.

Luke Hale - LA Governor

 

Luke is currently completing his teacher training with York St John, gaining an ‘Outstanding’ grading in all teaching practices. Before training to teach, he worked for a youth work charity in Cumbria with responsibility for communications and supporting curriculum design for over 100 youth clubs.

 

Luke is a Local Authority governor and his term of office runs from 13/2/2017 - 12.2.2021.

 

 

 

Stewart Starr Joint Vice Chair and Chair of Finance and Resources Management Committee, member of the Teaching and Achievement Committee and the Head Teacher Performance Management and Pay Committee.

 

Stewart works in Finance at the British Library and has been a governor for over ten years. He is linked to the current Reception class.

 

Stewart is a Foundation Governor and his current term of office commenced on 01/09/14. It is due to end on 31/08/18.

John Griffiths – member of the Pay Committee.

 

John has a construction firm specialising in the installation of electrical wiring and fittings. He is linked to the current Year 5 class.

 

John is a Foundation Governor and his current term of office commenced on 01/05/15. It is due to end on 30/04/19.

Colin MacDonald – member of the Finance and Resources Management Committee

 

Colin has worked on local authority school building projects for some time and was part of the team involved in the rebuilding of the local secondary school.  He is linked to the Y1 class and is the Health and Safety Link Governor; Pupils with Medical Needs Link Governor as well as the SEN Link Governor.

 

Colin is a Foundation Governor and his current term of office commenced on 25/02/16. It is due to end on 24/02/20.

Lucy Paver 


Lucy joined the school in September 2013 as a newly qualified teacher. She is currently teaching in Y1 and is the school's PE and School Sport Subject Leader.

 

Lucy's term of office commenced on 01/09/15. It is due to end on 31/08/19.

John Hattam member of the Finance and Resources Management Committee and the Rapid Improvement Group

 

John is the owner of a training and consultancy business, and works with clients in the areas of sales training, team building, new business and product development, also delivering training on negotiation and leadership in the UK and abroad. He has recently become fascinated by the potential of simple businesses to alleviate poverty in the developing world and has spent some time in Rwanda, Uganda and Nigeria exploring this. When not working he enjoys walking, playing the piano, backgammon, wine and travelling.

John has been a school governor in a number of schools over the last fifteen or so years and as a local leader of governance also delivers leadership programmes for school governors.

“I’ve been impressed by the quality of leadership since September 2016 at the school and am excited by the appointment of the new Head. We have already begun our school improvement journey at New Earswick and are committed to making further rapid progress."

His current term of office commenced on 01/04/16. It is due to end on 31/03/17.

Richard Dobson – member of the Teaching and Achievement Committee and the Pay Appeals Committee

 

Richard has over thirty years experience in education as a primary teacher, headteacher and, most recently, as a local authority Adviser. He possesses many relevant experiences and skills, which he is able to bring to his role as a governor.  He is linked to the Year 6 class, is the Maths Link Governor and is also a volunteer maths tutor in the school.

 

Richard is a Foundation Governor and his current term of office commenced on 25/03/15. It is due to end on 24/03/19.

Kaeli Wishart

 

She has been an employee of York Theatre Royal in the role of Visitor Services Manager for 18 years where  she leads and supports the customer facing departments. She has been directly responsible for planning and execution of large-scale collaborative and community projects such as the 2012 York Mystery Plays, the Shakespeare Festival, and 'The Railway Children'. She looks forward to contributing her ideas and enthusiasm for learning through the arts to New Earswick Primary School.

Kaeli is a Parent Governor and her current term of office commenced on 02/11/16. It is due to end on 01/11/20.
